Joining Hands for a Greener Future: Carolus Funeral Home and DigiFlora's Eco-Friendly Flower Boards

NEWS

Sending condolences in the form of “bunga papan” or flower boards is a tradition in Indonesian society. It is also an act of kindness that comes from the heart. Over time, people have become aware of the various problems and negative impacts on the environment caused by traditional flower boards. Traditional flower boards contain styrofoam, which is not environmentally friendly as it is difficult to recycle, takes hundreds of years to decompose, contains more than 50 harmful substances, and its waste pollutes the environment. In addition, traditional flower boards are often not clearly visible due to the large number of them being placed overlapping in the location of the event, including in funeral homes. Their transportation using motor vehicles also leaves a carbon footprint that has a negative impact on the environment.

Currently, the digital flower board service DigiFlora is available at Carolus Funeral Home in Jakarta. On Thursday, December 22, 2022, a cooperation agreement was signed between Carolus Funeral Home and DigiFlora. With the DigiFlora service, family members, friends, or colleagues of the bereaved can send digital flower boards through the rumahdukacarolus.com website or the digiflora.id website. The process is easy, practical, and fast. Everyone can choose the design and directly write the name of the sender, so that there is no mistake in writing the name. The message is displayed on an energy-saving TV screen in each hall at Carolus Funeral Home.

"Carolus Funeral Home is the first funeral home partner of DigiFlora. We also want to contribute to help Carolus Funeral Home reduce the waste produced by traditional flower boards," said Ricky Subrata, founder and conceptor of DigiFlora.

Carolus Funeral Home itself continues to implement sustainable practices in its service process, ranging from technology, communication to the information used. In its operation, Carolus Funeral Home prioritizes Green Building which not only emphasizes greening but also minimizes negative impacts and creates positive impacts on the surrounding environment. "The cooperation between Carolus Funeral Home and DigiFlora is a form of support for the Green Building system implemented by Carolus Funeral Home. DigiFlora's digital condolence service can reduce Styrofoam waste from flower boards that can cause pollution in the area of Carolus Funeral Home. Thus, this cooperation is not only very beneficial for the visitors who are facilitated with digital condolence orders for grieving families, but also supports and maintains the sustainability of nature and the environment," said Father Steve Winarto, Chair of the Carolus Funeral Home Management Committee.

The management of the funeral home is currently working on transformation and innovation, especially in terms of funeral service management with the One Step Solution system from the initial process of picking up the body to delivering it to the final resting place (funeral or cremation service) and providing all the needs required by the bereaved family.
